Grind and Seal

At Ruff Rock, we transform ordinary concrete into a high-performance, architectural feature. A grind and seal finish is the ultimate fusion of industrial durability, design versatility, and cost-effectiveness, offering a completely non-porous, dust-free surface that is perfectly protected against the elements.

Whether you are looking for a sleek, high-gloss finish for a commercial showroom, a slip-resistant surface for an outdoor alfresco, or a durable, low-maintenance solution for a residential space, our team delivers precision-engineered floors tailored to your aesthetic and functional requirements.

Key Advantages

  • Total Surface Protection: Because the concrete is sealed with a high-performance topical coating, the surface becomes completely non-porous, offering maximum resistance against oils, chemicals, and stubborn stains.

  • Low Maintenance: Say goodbye to complex maintenance routines; our sealed floors are exceptionally easy to sweep, mop, and keep pristine.

  • Cost-Effective Excellence: Achieve the stunning visual look of premium polished concrete at a budget-friendly price point, making it ideal for large commercial spaces and residential layouts alike.

  • Design Versatility: Available in indoor and outdoor configurations, a grind and seal allows for custom slip-resistance levels, distinct sheen variations, and enhanced colour enhancement of the concrete beneath.

Our Specialised Finishes

We offer a variety of sealers and exposure levels to match your design vision:

  • Matte / Satin Seal: A subtle, low sheen look with a modern, organic feel that minimises the appearance of dust and footprints.

  • High-Gloss Seal: A vibrant, reflective finish that darkens and enriches the natural colours of your concrete mix.

  • Custom Aggregate Exposure: Choose your look, from a light "salt and pepper" look to a full, heavy aggregate exposure that reveals the maximum stone and texture beneath.

Our Process: How We Deliver Perfection

Achieving an elite grind and seal finish requires a precise mechanical grind coupled with premium, industrial-grade coating applications.

  1. Floor Preparation & Initial Grind

The foundation of a flawless finish starts with mechanical grinding. We use aggressive diamond-segment tooling to grind down the top layer of the concrete slab. This step removes old coatings, adhesives, and surface imperfections while flattening the slab. It is during this stage that we grind to your chosen level of stone exposureโ€”whether you prefer a minimalist look or a heavy, dramatic aggregate reveal.

  2. Grouting & Fine Sanding

Once the desired aggregate exposure is achieved, we patch and grout the floor to fill in pinholes, minor cracks, and air pockets, ensuring a completely uniform surface. We then transition to finer grit diamond tools to sand and smooth out the concrete. This step removes scratch patterns from the initial heavy grind, opening up the concreteโ€™s pores so it can form a permanent, chemical bond with the upcoming sealer.

  3. Sealer Application

The final stage is where your floor is fully transformed and protected. After thoroughly cleaning the slab of all dust, we apply multiple coats of a premium, commercial-grade topical sealer (such as polyurethane or epoxy). Depending on your project requirements, we can integrate anti-slip additives into this final layerโ€”making it perfect for wet areas, garages, or outdoor spaces. The result is a beautifully sealed, resilient architectural feature.

The Ruff Rock Difference: We don't just seal; we ensure longevity. A grind and seal is only as good as the adhesion of the coating. Thanks to our extensive experience with surface preparation and technical specifications, we ensure your slab is meticulously prepped and paired with the highest-grade commercial sealers. This guarantees a finish that won't easily scratch, peel, or yellow over time.
